The quickest way to land in a different rhythm. No cars are allowed; you walk, cycle or take an electric cart. B\u00fcy\u00fckada has wooden mansions and pine woods, Heybeliada is quieter, and Burgazada is nearly empty.<\/p>\n
Ferries leave from Emin\u00f6n\u00fc, ten minutes on foot from the hotel. Crossing takes between forty minutes and an hour and a half depending on the island.<\/p>\n
Two hours away lies the first Ottoman capital. The Grand Mosque with its twenty domes, the Green Tomb, and Koza Han, where silk was traded for centuries.<\/p>\n
In winter people come for skiing on Uluda\u011f; all year round for the thermal springs at \u00c7ekirge. And \u0130skender kebab was invented here, which is reason enough for one lunch.<\/p>\n
The Black Sea coast, roughly two hours out. \u015eile has a lighthouse, cliffs and a wide sandy beach; A\u011fva sits between two rivers, with boats and forest around it. People swim in summer and walk the rest of the year.<\/p>\n
On weekdays both towns are almost deserted, which is precisely their appeal.<\/p>\n
Leave early \u2014 before nine for the islands, on the first ferry for Bursa. Aim to return in daylight, especially outside high season when services finish sooner.<\/p>\n
Put a trip like this in the middle or at the end of your stay. Leaving the city makes sense once the city has started to tire you; done too early, it simply takes time away from Istanbul itself.<\/p>\n
